There are many strong opinions pitting natural light and studio light against each other. Here at Teresa Lee Photography we love to use them to enhance each other. We understand the negatives of natural light, that is why we have studio lighting to make you and your pictures look perfect. Don’t believe in the need for studio lighting? Let’s look at the benefits together:

We are not limited by the time of day. With natural light you can spend a lot of time trying to ‘find’ it, and often the direction of the light doesn’t work at all with the background you want to use. This would be a pretty big challenge for any photographer! Shooting in natural light is not as romantic as it sounds. Waiting and searching for the golden hour that is not guaranteed can make for a frustrating and hurried process. With our studio light capabilities, we can schedule your outdoor shoot at pretty much any time of day and present you with an amazing finished product!

There are a ton of options. Not only does natural light not last very long, but everything about it gives you fewer options. Just one example is that when the sun is high in the sky dark circles will appear under your eyes, with our studio lighting we make those disappear! With our professional lighting design techniques we can get whatever look we’re going for. Our goal is to make the best image we can for our client, and studio light ensures that our goal is accomplished.

We have complete control. One of the most obvious reasons for lack of control is the weather. While the sun is pretty consistent during daylight hours, the availability of it is another matter. Clouds and other weather conditions make it difficult to get the quality of light you want. Softness, intensity, and color can all change in a split second with mother nature. With studio lighting we can control how intense the light is. We can control the direction it is coming from, and also the shape of the light. With natural light you have virtually no control.

We like the control we have over shaping light. Mastering studio lighting can be tricky, and taking the time for studio equipment setup, as well as training and being proficient in professional lighting design techniques is something we take seriously. I think, by now, you can agree with us, using studio lighting to enhance nature’s light is oftentimes the best option in any situation.
